ACT

Most students should plan to take the ACT at least twice, usually once during junior year (provided free of cost at UCA for 11th graders during the spring semester), and once during 1st semester of senior year. The cost to take the ACT an additional time is $60 without writing or $80 with writing. These fees cover the cost of score reports for you, your high school, and up to four colleges (if codes are provided when you register). The writing portion of the exam may not be required by your college of interest so be sure to check with them before registering for an ACT test.

Test dates for the 2021-2022 school year are below. You can register at act.org. Keep in mind that the registration deadlines typically fall one month prior to the test date so you will want to register as early as possible!

The cost is $52 without the essay portion, or $68 with the essay. Please check with your schools of interest to see if they require the writing section of the exam. SAT/ACT Optional Colleges

Many students increase their scores when they take the college entrance exams multiple times, and most colleges will take the highest section of each administration to create a new high score (also known as “super-scoring”). However, some students do not find that the exams are an accurate reflection of their abilities. Click here to view a list of colleges that are “test optional”. They do not require students to submit their scores for the SAT/ACT unless students think it will aid in the admissions process.

Testing Fee Waivers

Fee waivers are available to students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in the 11th or 12th grade
  • Testing in the United States
  • Meet one or more of the following indicators of economic need
    • Enrolled in a federal free or reduced-price lunch program at school
    • Reside in a foster home, are a ward of the state, or are homeless
    • Family receives low-income public assistance or live in federally subsidized public housing
    • Family’s total annual income is at or below the USDA levels for free or reduced-price lunches listed on the USDA Food and Nutrition Services website

Fee waivers cover the registration fee for one test option-either the ACT (no writing) or the ACT with writing. The waiver covers one score report to your high school and up to six college choices at the time of registration. After registration, you can request up to an additional 20 score reports for free! Please see Mrs. Rabb if you believe that you qualify for a fee waiver.
