Good afternoon UCA Staff and Families,

As you can imagine, these decisions are never easy as we continue to navigate state requirements and ever-changing weather conditions.

At this time, Thursday, February 5th, UCA will operate on a two-hour delay for staff and a three-hour delay for students. This adjustment will allow our team time to prepare for student arrival and provide additional time for our young drivers and buses to travel safely.

School administration will be emailing updated student schedules that reflect the adjusted start times. Additionally, we ask that families please provide lunch or substantial snacks for their children tomorrow, as we will be unable to provide lunch services. Many of our vendors have also been impacted by the weather and are unable to accommodate our adjusted schedule.

Please know that we will continue to monitor weather conditions this evening. If conditions change, we may shift to a Virtual Learning Day, which would allow teachers time to prepare and communicate office hour opportunities for students.

As we continue planning ahead and working to minimize disruption to instruction, our leadership team recently reviewed our current school calendar and discussed potential make-up day options. Our primary goal throughout this process has been to honor our previously scheduled Spring Break for our students, families, and staff. At this time, we anticipate requesting approval from our Board of Directors to:

• Replace a previously scheduled “No Day” with Presidents Day (February 16th)
• Change the scheduled Virtual Learning Day on March 13th to an in-person instructional day
• Add additional instructional days in June

Please know that these proposed changes will not impact graduation for our senior class, which remains scheduled for May 29th.

Additionally, if weather or road conditions in your area remain unsafe, or if you are not comfortable with your young driver traveling, please contact your school administration. Your child will be marked excused. In no way do we ever want to place attendance above the safety of our students and families.

Thank you for your continued flexibility, support, and partnership as we work together to keep our students and staff safe.

Stay safe and warm,

Dr. Sharon Castelli
