Suttles, Will

SuttlesMr. Suttles began his teaching career in the Peace Corps in Liberia in West Africa, forty years ago. After a three-year assignment, he chose to leave teaching because, he said, "I had no real experience to share with my students."

The next thirty years found him wandering through Great Britain, opening a bookstore in Homer, Alaska, selling fish in New York, selling health food in Detroit, teaching family values in Chicago, traveling in the Orient, Europe, and Russia, opening a school in Africa, and teaching at International School of Ouagadougou, in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Since returning to the States in 2004, he has taught at Randleman High School. Mr. Suttles is a firm believer in hands-on, experiential learning and uses the modeling approach in his classroom, in which students discover basic science principles themselves through experiments.
