Hilger, Landy



Mrs. Hilger teaches high school Spanish at Uwharrie Charter Academy.  Mrs. Hilger’s first language is Spanish; she grew up in Villahermosa, Tabasco in southern Mexico. She moved to North Carolina in 1996 and graduated from East Montgomery High School. Mrs. Hilger obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a focus on Literacy and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Her work experience includes translation and interpreting in legal settings, teaching fifth grade at Randleman Elementary, and teaching Language Arts and Social Studies as grade level chair at West Middle School.  She will be graduating in the Fall of 2017 from Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts in Educational Media as an Instructional Technology Specialist.  Mrs. Hilger was also recognized as Uwharrie Charter Academy Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017.

Mrs. Hilger emphasizes the importance of family and teachers as mentors and essential support in student success through high school and college education.  Mrs. Hilger is appreciative of different cultures; she enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her family in the Uwharrie Forest.
